The Supreme Court yesterday (September 04th) granted leave to proceed with two fundamental rights petitions against Minister Mervyn Silva.
MTV Channel Pvt. Ltd. and its cameraman Waruna Sampath filed the two petitions, demanding Rs. 110 million as compensation.
The petitioners alleged that Minister Silva manhandled and assaulted media personnel of the channel who had been covering the opening of second stage of flyover at Kelaniya and snatched two video cameras.
The Bench comprising Justices, Asoka de Silva, Saleem Marshook and K. Sripavan listed the matter for hearing on December 04th.
